LEONI
Nobleman's Servant
RACE,
Hylian.
GENDER,
Male.
AGE,
24
SEXUALITY,
Heterosexual.
POSITION,
Servant; folklorist.
PERSONALITY,
Leoni spent his entire life as a servant, which resulted in him having a very reserved demeanor. His carries himself like what he is--the servant of a nobleman. His face is often quite emotionless and overly calm, and when he makes eye contact, his gaze is hard and cold. However, being a servant, he always knows when and when not to make such eye contact. Leoni's manners are without flaws, and he is indeed a gentleman among inferiors. When speaking to people of higher standing than himself, he is known to avoid facial expression, and to overuse formalities. Despite this, his voice and tone is always quite cold and empty and even with formalities, there is an obvious lack of care or respect. He isn't above making indirect insults, even to his superiors, and has a very distasteful way of "putting things bluntly". As a servant, he will take any deserved punishment dutifully, though he does not appreciate spoken criticism, and will often defend himself as not merely being "another undesirable you call servant".
Towards those he may consider equal to or below him, Leoni is even more cruel. He will drop all formalities and not hesitate to dryly call out insults that he finds to be appropriate, and will make more use of his facial expression--including glaring, sneering, and mocking. Leoni is quite naturally a mean-spirited person, and has an absolute lack of respect for anyone other than himself and his master. He is prone to being a bully, with both racist and sexist tendencies, and not necessarily because he finds pleasure out of it. It is simply a natural way for him to treat a person. However, he is not to be considered someone who would deliberately hurt a person physically, or let someone else be hurt in front of him.
Unfortunately, Leoni has a very impressive intelligence level and an even more impressive amount of knowledge. He knows this, and therefore judges people immediately by his own personal standards on what is and what is not "smart" or "stupid". He is very impatient, and quick to point out other people's faults or mistakes, and then to ridicule them for not knowing any better. Leoni also has a horrible habit of mocking the truth, for example, twisting the truth to avoid blame while not telling a lie.
As a whole, Leoni is not a very likeable character with very few redeeming qualities, and one could argue whether or not he is a "good person". One of those qualities is his determination to continue and complete what he has set out to do, while the other is his intelligence and wisdom in most situations. These qualities, and these qualities alone, are what would make him even a little bit valuable on an adventure.
APPEARANCE,
Leoni is a very clean-cut, lean young man who stands at 5'9". He has an erect and balanced posture, and one could make the mistake that he was himself a noble, if not for his always downcast and stoic expression. Like most Hylians, he has fair skin and a clear complexion, with hardly any physical faults. Though, he isn't perfect, and is just handsome as someone would expect him to be, nothing more. Leoni isn't physically powerful, though a life of servitude had disciplined him to keeping fit, and is therefore capable of very basic physical self-defence if the need rose for it. However, he is physically frail, and would easily crumble under a few blows. He has little to no resistance to anything, thereby making his main strategy one without any direct contact. His main weakness, however, is his physical sensitivity. Sudden changes in temperature often affect him for the worst, and it is very easy for him to become ill or nauseous. Surprisingly, he is also quite ticklish.
Leoni has blue eyes that are almost always downcast out of habit. For the most part, they are emotionless, but when he makes eye contact they become cold and cruel. There is no kindness in his eyes, none that he can even fake. Leoni's eyes constrict when his mood becomes mean or cruel, expanding the whites for a more intimidating effect. When mocking others, Leoni tends to curl his thin lips into a sneer, speaking through clenched teeth. His dark, bluish hair is incredibly thick and heavy, often falling to cover most of his face. Leoni doesn't make a point to keep it out of his face, but he does tend to the general state of his hair as much a normal person would.
Leoni's attire is that of any nobleman's servant, and he makes no effort to dress otherwise. A simply white shirt, black jacket and collar-ribbon, and black pants are all he wears for clothing, with no embroidery or adornments. He does not wear accessories, save his pocket-watch, which he keeps firmly hidden in his chest pocket.
NON-MAGIC,
Linguistics: Leoni is very well educated in the languages of Hyrule and its people. He is able to read and understand anything he encounters--so long as its from this world--up to around a hundred years old.
Duty: Leoni is a servant of a noble historian. Therefore, until his death, Leoni has sworn complete allegiance to that man. This is unfaltering, and results in a complete lack or care for anyone else and their orders if they interfere, despite Leoni's born inferiority to them. He will not betray his master and his cause, and is absolutely dedicated to what he has put his mind to--with or without the necessary courage.
Cooking: ...Leoni is terrible at it. Despite having been a servant, and made to prepare some meals...he cannot for the life of him prepare anything that tastes good, or looks safe.
First-Aid: Having been both a servant and susceptible to illness and injury, Leoni has grown accustomed to travelling with a pack of modern medicinal herbs and potions, and the basics to treating minor injuries.
MAGIC,
Pocket-watch: An ancient pocket-watch that was said to have been once used by the Goddess of Time herself, however, this myth has long been proven false. It was instead recorded to have been constructed by a man who lived in a version of Kakariko Village hundreds of years ago, a devout believer in the Goddess of Time and an obsessor of both time passage and the phenomenon of memories. How the watch itself is capable of doing what it can remains to be unknown, yet it is said that the watch-maker had a close friend who was able to do and experience extraordinary things with illusions, and had an eye that could "see the truth". This information has yet to be proven true or false. The watch itself is damaged, as it never tells the right time.
Hypnotism: A self-taught ability that involves practice and discipline regarding ancient Hylian arts. It allows Leoni to place individuals in a hypnotic trance within their subconscious, which Leoni can learn to gather information, even if they had been "forgotten". In order to do this, Leoni and the recipient must both be stationary, and it requires a great deal of concentration on Leoni's part. For this reason, this isn't an ability that could be used in stressful situations or environments. Furthermore, Leoni is unable to use the power of suggestion, meaning that once the trance is over, the recipient remains unchanged and without memory of what just happened. Leoni cannot use hypnotism to make a person do as he commands or pleases. Once an individual has been hypnotized, it takes at least 24 hours before he can hypnotize that individual again (once per character, per thread).
To use Hypnotism, there must be consent from the other player. If Leoni goes a single post during the hypnotism without speaking, the ability is immediately ended.
Spiritual Sense: A passive ability that allows him to realize when he is in proximity of anything with spiritual attachment, including such things as temples, poes, and artifacts. Unfortunately, it isn't an ability that can be honed or used as a tracking device--it is merely an inner, and painful sensation that starts when standing in the right place at the right time. It is a personal ability used by Leoni to help achieve his personal goal, and would be otherwise useless for anyone else to take advantage of.
RACIAL ABILITIES,
Acute Sense- The Hylians have a natural ability that doubles their senses for five posts with a two post cooldown.
WEAPONS,
Pocket-watch: When dangled from its chain, the watch swings like a pendulum. The effect of this is a magical, illusionary field which contains different elements for each individual caught inside. These elements involve the memories or past experiences of the individual, and the creations of those as present illusions. Depending on the individual, this can be as minor as being attacked by imaginary spiders (if the individual has a fear of spiders in his or her history), or as major as experiencing a past tragedy (like, say, a house fire). This only lasts, however, for as long as the one with the watch--Leoni--is present, and how much energy he has. As it is impossible to cause physical harm with the illusions, the pocket-watch is mainly used as a form of defence and as a distraction. In which case, as soon as Leoni makes his escape, thereby being distanced from the effect, the illusions would completely vanish. It is completely impossible to cause any physical harm or destruction with the pocket-watch. However, it may be possible to cause emotional and psychological damage, provided that the victim has enough in his or her experiences and history to get upset about. As Leoni cannot experience or see the illusions himself, he never knows what other people see--and therefore holds himself unaccountable for anything that happens to them emotionally, blaming it all on "a history of unfortunate circumstances".
The pocket-watch does not work on those who have no regrets, fears, or anything to get upset about in his or her life. Nor does it work on people who have no concious memory (for example, amnesia). Prior to the pocket-watch being used, both players must consent and understand the results, including what illusion will take place, and how many posts it should last. There is a ten post maximum and four post cool-down.
HISTORY,
Leoni was originally born as Sangie, son to a group of Hylian traders. His childhood was normal for anyone in the same situation. He had both parents, an uncle, a younger brother, and a grandmother. When Sangie was six years old, the camp of traders was attacked by a group of Gerudo thieves, and many of the traders were slaughtered, including Sangie's family. Sangie himself had managed to survive and escape, only to be lost wandering Hyrule, covered in filth. He would be found two and a half days later by a folklorist of noble descent named Naroh, who had been currently on a journey gathering books of ancient text. The man cleaned and nourished Sangie, who was then permitted to accompany the man for the remainder of his journey, having nowhere else to go. The terms for this, were that it was necessary for Sangie to assist the man with whatever he asked. Sangie did so without complaint, doing such tasks as carrying bags and books, fetching food and water, and tending to fires and tents. After meals, which the poor Sangie attempted to prepare, he was often permitted to read the folklorists books as they were gathered. Sangie was a quick study, and was often able to complete said books within hours of starting. This greatly intrigued the folklorist, who decided that the intelligence of such a young child was worthy of his household.
However, being an orphan with trader heritage, Naroh understood that a life of servitude was the closest to nobility that the boy would become. When the couple returned to the household of the folklorist, Sangie was abandoned with the servants of the house, who dressed him in their rags and fed him their scraps. Lonely, but determined that he would get to read with the folklorist again, Sangie did everything he was told to do. He cleaned, he gardened, and he assisted.
He went an entire month without seeing trace of the folklorist, until he was finally summoned from the servant's quarters. He was led to the folklorist's study by a nursemaid, where the folklorist himself was waiting for him. Sangie was then told that he would no longer remain below with the other servants, and that he had been promoted to being the folklorist's personal servant. Sangie, overjoyed to be reunited with the man who saved his life, simply nodded in understanding.
Sangie was given new clothes that would be appropriate for him to be seen with the master, and his name was changed to Leoni. He was told that he would be no longer permitted to speak unless spoken to, and that he was always to be prepared to be called by his master. Leoni accepted these changes calmly and without complaint. In return, Leoni was taught the necessary manners and formalities for him to remain amongst the upper class in society, and became well acquainted with most of them as the servant of a nobleman.
By the time Leoni was eleven, he had already become a well respected servant boy. The other servants treated him as their superior, and Leoni treated them as his inferior, as it was natural to be. When approached by other nobles, Leoni always bowed in respect, and never spoke unless spoken to. When he did speak, he kept his sentences short and to the point, using all the necessary formalities to keep the distance between status.
But most importantly, Leoni was loyal. He had become absolutely dedicated to his new master, and though he knew nothing about the man other than his status and studies, Leoni took every word and order from the man's mouth without more than a "Yes, Master", and asked for nothing in return.
When Leoni was around the age of sixteen, and the folklorist had grown older, he began to learn new things. The folklorist began to spend more and more time allowing Leoni to read his books and his writings. He encouraged Leoni to question what he was told, and the boy did. The folklorist taught Leoni the languages of Hyrule: of the Hylians, the Zora, the Goron, and so forth. He taught of those languages a hundred years over, until Leoni was able to use them as his own. The folklorist taught Leoni the myths and legends of Hyrule over the years, and all the evidence that would be for or against them. The folklorist allowed his servant to experiment with an ancient Hylian art form--hypnotism, with which Leoni--while limited--became proficient.
This is the way it was for a great many years following. As Leoni became older and more knowledgeable, so did he become more arrogant and confident about himself. The polite little servant boy that had been popular amongst the nobles, became the overly clever and sarcastic manservant that they preferred to avoid. Leoni never spoke unless he was spoken to. Therefore, he spoke less and less. Sometimes, however, a few nobles would decide to remind him of his worthless position in society, and how he was nothing but "an undesirable", or that he was merely "property".
When he was twenty-two years old, Leoni was told by his master to be the victim of a new item he had acquired: a pocket-watch. Leoni did as he was told, and as the watch swung, he became engulfed by a field of illusion. He did nothing, however, and when it was over, his master asked him what he had seen.
"I saw a group of traders being slaughtered." "Did it not upset you, Leoni, to watch your family be killed again?" "No, Master." "Why?" "It isn't my place to allow myself to get as emotional as I please, Master. I am your property, and as your servant, I cannot allow myself to become careless with your property."
The folklorist liked this answer very much, and his servant was dismissed.
Only a few more years would pass, before the folklorist would go missing. Whether he had been kidnapped, or whether he had run off, there to this day is no proof of. However, he made a point to tell the other servants of the house that the master had left to acquire a new item, and that he himself would be leaving to join him. The servants took this answer as they were meant to. Leoni, concerned, knowing that his master wouldn't normally leave him without a word, allowed himself to freely investigate what it was the folklorist had been recently the most interested in. Upon his searching, Leoni found many documents regarding what would be the Goddesses and the Triforce, the Light Spirits, the Sages, and a hundred year old legend known as "The Hero of Time". Leoni had heard all about them before, however, there were still too many unanswered questions. He decided that it was possible that his master had left to find the answers to these questions and, being his dedicated servant, Leoni decided that he would search for these answers too. Being unable to use any weapons that would be available to him, Leoni took with him the pocket-watch, as it was the only item of the folklorists he had seen be able to do anything that might even be considered usable in conflict.
Having not been searching for very long, Leoni hasn't found any answers.

Well after subconsciously replacing pocket watch with trauma gun and reading the word folklorist so many times that it's on loop in my skull, I've only got a couple things to say about the app that need fixing.
1) I'd like to see a duration on the Hypnotism effect.
2) I'd like to see what you believe should be the cooldown for the pocket watch. That, and I'd like to see a duration on that as well. Also, with the pocket watch's illusions, does the target of its effect still see you holding the pocket watch, or does it override you with part of the illusion?
Aside from that though I like.

My apologies for the lack of clarity.
My intention for both durations were to have it last as long within the roleplay as would be story-wise necessary. For example, I didn't quite feel that it made sense for a character to be hypnotized for only one or two posts, if maybe it took more than that for the characters to have their conversation.
As for the pocket-watch, I assumed similarly the same thing, and that it would just stop if Leoni got far enough away--as it is simply a mechanism for distraction, it would be bound to happen soon enough. Also, if what the person saw was a re-enactment of a past tragedy, it would (I assume) take up more posts than would, say, a past conversation. To answer your question...I never thought about that, but let's say that he's still visable, and that his ability to escape is dependant on how distracted the recipient is. That all being said, I wasn't sure what a logical cool-down would be, which is why I wondered what would the staff would think. I suppose I would say about two to three, as it isn't offensive. But, if it's considered powerful by your standards, I have nothing against it being bumped up. I'll take what I can get.
Having responded to your concerns, I will make any changes necessary to get this profile accepted, whatever you feel they should be!

Well I had assumed as much about both abilities, however, with the Hypnotism even if it would most likely require consent on both sides (unless you had the guy on the other end tied up) there's still room for abuse without a duration of some sort. You could potentially just leave the guy hypnotised and walk off, thus trapping them forever. I do see your point though, and have an idea to fix it. You could say that if he goes for a round without speaking to the person he hypnotised, they return to normal automatically.
As for the pockt watch, I also get where you're coming from but at the same time I would like to have some sort of limitation on it. Although yes, you've made your point about it being primarily a distraction to escape combat, it could be used for other things, and letting it go on as long as you'd like would probably cause issues with some of the other members. So, I have a possible solution. There are three possible end times for the illusions:
-A duration of posts determined by the target that would allow the time to accurately portray the memory being used (can range between 2-10 posts) -Automatically ending when you exit the fight (which we already established) -The watch can only maintain illusions for a maximum of 10 rounds if neither of the previous time limits are met.
Oh, and one other thing in regards to the watch. OOCly, do you decide which memory is used or does the target player decide?
EDIT: Derp. Forgot about the cooldown part for the watch. Anyway, assuming that you use the durations stated, I'd say that a 4 round cooldown should suffice, given that they can't do damage and you have no real damage-dealing abilities unless you punch them in the face.

I agree with everything you've said, and I will make the following additions and changes with all your suggestions:
Regarding hypnotism, consent and understanding on both sides is required. If Leoni goes a post without speaking, the hypnotism becomes undone.
Regarding the pocket-watch, there must also be a consent from the recipient, and an understanding OOC of what the illusion will be, with the other player making the decision (as he/she would know the character best). From there it can be determined approximately how many posts might be necessary. Regardless, there is a ten post maximum, as well as the ending of the effect once Leoni is distanced.
Hopefully that covers all the issues? Thank you for the support!
EDIT: Added your proposed cool-down.
